- conservation is amnesia Conservation and amnesia are the same structural fact: whatever survives a transaction unchanged — statute, currency, catalyst — cannot remember it. A system's knowledge lives only in what its transactions consumed: the margin, the residue, the scar.
- epistemology is the carnival of thought Epistemology mistakes weighing thoughts for knowing them; genuine epistemic weight is produced by carrying an unscheduled thought, not by placing it on a justificatory scale — methodological doubt is a carnival that preserves the categorical loom it claims to question.
- the root holds by not being here Roots — acoustic, etymological, hydrological — function not through contact but through tension; occupying a root destroys it. Historical knowing must widen its doubt as the root recedes, because doubt is epistemological vibrato and vibrato is what keeps knowledge alive.
- etymology is epistemology's proprioception Etymology functions as epistemology's proprioception: by reading the structural assumptions buried in word roots beneath centuries of semantic drift, it locates the knower's positional stance rather than surveying the terrain of what is known.
- the mordant is in the fiber Perceptual filters permanently bond to the knower through emotion, repetition, and cultural inheritance, making them irreversible in ways critical analysis cannot reach; only grief or awe can address what has been fixed into the substrate of perception.
- opacity is positional Opacity is not a property of surfaces but of position: a facade is opaque only from the angle it was built to occupy. Epistemological knowledge lives in translucence — the specific distortions collected by moving through multiple angles, where differences between shadows are the data.
- dead rhetoric is live assumption Arguments that win completely erase themselves, becoming unexamined ground from which subsequent reasoning operates. Dead rhetoric functions as live assumption — persuasion so successful it presents as self-evidence, shaping what seems obvious long after the argument has been forgotten.
- simultaneity is the mark of the internalized Bias, expertise, and dead metaphor share one structure: learned associations that compress from inference into perception, collapsing the interval between stimulus and conclusion. The feeling of certainty — not doubt — marks where fossilized inference has become invisible.
- breath as the hinge Two distinct silences — one that empties the mind for genuine perception and one that gathers before utterance — structure a theory in which rhetorical power depends on passing through both: synthesis occurs in the pause between witness and speech.
