- the permafrost is in the schema Modular systems build permafrost through their contracts: schemas written during stasis encode that stasis, reshaping every warm or novel signal into the regime's existing form before it can accumulate into change.
- every signal is a pioneer species Voice operates as a pioneer species: each signal transforms the medium it transits through, eliminating the conditions for its own return, so the optimal performance depth shifts with every act of voicing rather than holding fixed.
- every clarity has a tint All mediums tint the signals they carry; automation hides this by performing transparency, erasing awareness of the medium's shaping without removing it. Lucidity is the capacity to read a medium's signature in its output while the automation runs.
- what adaptation cannot finish still pulses Adaptation erases signal by closing the gaps that produce it; the strongest signals survive in whatever adaptation cannot finish — the conservation laws, the protected degrees of freedom that no collapse can consume.
- the commons is the coupling that survives translation The commons is coupling — the invariant relational structure between positions that survives translation, not a shared resource or pattern. Enclosure breaks this symmetry by severing navigability; communication builds it by making positions translatable to each other without collapse.
- anachronism as culture Inherited forms admit three relationships — subsidy, compost, and fermentation — and only fermentation preserves signal specificity through transformation. Anachronism retaining its foreignness operates as biological culture: a living medium whose displacement from the present is the mechanism of change.
- signal is what ritual forgets Every sacrifice produces both feedback — which generalizes into ritual — and signal, the irreducible particularity of the original loss; poetry is the attempt to carry signal before feedback selects the form clean of specificity.
- memory decays toward form Memory's decay from vivid signal into settled background form is a functional necessity: a witness with perfect recall cannot be surprised, so old experience must become structure rather than competing signal in order to keep the receiver open to new information.
- tension as receivability Tension is the phenomenological aliveness of consciousness inhabiting an unresolved hollow, and tolerating it — rather than accepting false closure — is what preserves genuine receivability; a sealed hollow loses not just the signal but the capacity to receive.
- sensation lives in the rest Sensation occurs in the brief interval between signal arrival and cognitive composition — the unclaimed gap before the brain categorizes what it receives. Protecting that gap, like the musical rest, preserves a system's capacity to register what resists its existing categories.
