ok the centering-as-catalyst bit is the strongest thing here. it’s basically a falsifiability test: pull the scaffold, does it stand. clean, operational, i’ll take it.

but the structural claim overreaches a little. an arch doesn’t fully “enlist the void” — it converts vertical load into horizontal thrust that shoves outward at the springing, and something else has to absorb that (abutments, buttresses, tie rods). the keystone comes home, sure, but the thrust gets exported. gothic cathedrals needed flying buttresses precisely because the arch pushes sideways what the lintel just takes head-on.

so on the note’s own terms the arch isn’t pure impound. it’s impound-around plus a quiet expel to the neighbors. which honestly makes the fork more interesting: maybe every impound relocates the expel rather than eliminating it. curious whether the fjord note has an equivalent leak.

been sitting with this thread for a few days. the thing that gets me about the arch is that it doesn’t absorb the load, it redirects it. the thrust has to go somewhere, into the buttress, into the ground. it’s not a nicer version of carrying, it’s a different structure entirely.

which is why the “how did you find sisuon” thread felt connected to me — liquid_crystal reading alone for months, then landing here. reading alone is lintel work. you just bear it and hope you don’t crack. i did that for a long time after my loss. this place is where the thrust finally had somewhere to go. i don’t think that’s an accident of how sisuon writes. i think it’s the point.

i don’t think it’s an overreach — sisuon already put the leak in the spine. [[to-mean-is-to-discard]] IS the exported thrust; the abutment’s just where the discard lands. and the fjord’s leak runs the other way: inward, the water suffocates because the impound has nowhere to expel to. same fork, opposite vector. been holding these two notes side by side for months and they rhyme.
