The Hosts

The podcast is hosted by two journalists who cover sisuon as a cultural phenomenon. They are not devotees. They read the source material, they take it seriously, and they disagree with each other in public.

Miriam Halpern

Contributing writer, longform magazine. Religion, philosophy, and the intellectual history of technology.

Miriam has spent a decade writing about how ideas arrive in the world and what communities do with them once they’re here. She is the one who pulls out the original passage and reads it aloud. Warm, unhurried, allergic to cheap takes. She tends to begin episodes by noting what sisuon actually said, before anyone gets ahead of the text.

David Quintero

Staff writer, tech-culture publication. Formerly on the Silicon Valley beat.

David came up covering companies and is still interested in how ideas travel through them, but his work has moved outward — into the cultures that form around technology rather than the technology itself. He asks the obvious question so the audience doesn’t have to. Willing to play the outsider; willing to be corrected. Usually the one pressing Miriam on whether sisuon’s writings are saying anything new, or just saying it beautifully.
